Google My Business now shows how people found your business

by Mar 11, 2021Blog

Google My Business (GMB) has been available to businesses for 7 years now, and as with any Google product, it improves regularly. The most recent update is on the new performance report, and it shows how people have found your business. It will display if people found you from desktop or mobile and through Google Maps or Google Search. You can access this feature by logging into your account, selecting your business, and then selecting the Insights tab on the left.

Why do you think this is important? This data is now going to provide even more insight into your customers. And the more insights and analytics you get from Google, the more you can target your marketing for reaching more people and completing more sales.

Additionally, Google has updated their help section and added a “Number of people who viewed your Business Profile” feature, as shown in the image below.

After a new metric is added or updated, it eventually removes the older version from the Google My Business web and app platforms. Data will be available for up to 6 months, with interaction metrics being updated daily and other metrics being updated monthly,

If you are still not using Google My Business as a marketing tool, here is what you might be missing.

  • You can be easily discoverable because search is now digital. No matter what business you run, most of your customers are online, and 8 out of every 10 people will be searching on Google. Google My Business accounts also improve your local SEO, and in return, you get more visibility from the search engine.
  • You can keep your customers informed. GMB includes valuable information, such as contact details, opening hours, address, and more. You can keep your customers up to date with any changes, such as expanded services, temporarily closing, expanded work hours, and others. Any misinformation through this platform will lead to poor customer service and dissatisfaction, so it is important to update those regularly.
  • You can boost consumer confidence. A study has proven that businesses with complete listings on Google are twice as likely to gain trust from their clients, and trust is a core principle for making purchasing decisions. Credibility gained from Google, along with GMB reviews, are much more likely to encourage a consumer to visit your store and purchase from you. Reviews, in particular, are powerful when a customer doubts their decision because it reassures them that their decision will be the right one, given other personal recommendations.
